NOMBZ: Night Of the Million Billion Zombies

Night Of the Million Billion Zombies or NOMBZ is the latest zombie slashing game brought to you by PowerUp Studios. PowerUp Studios was founded by two ex-Electronic Arts developers Bren Lynne and Matthew Rose. With their new game studio they want to prove that addicting 3D-action shooters can be made without the big money, a huge team and years of development. Now does this philosophy work? The only way to found out is to shoot ourselves trough a million billion zombies!

The story is as good as the story of most zombie cult films, describable in a couple of sentences. The city is infected with a virus that transforms people into zombies. It’s your task to shoot your way through 25 levels until you reach the helicopter to escape.

Trough the 25 levels there are 5 playable characters each with different unique weapons and abilities. You start with an escaped convict called Mot he is the main character of the game. When Mot dies you have to restart the level. Mot has a pistol as primary and an iron tire as a secondary weapon. The second playable character is Officer Milton, he comes available after the 5 th level. Milton is a badass cop with a shotgun as primary and a teaser as secondary weapon. You can switch between the characters all the time by scrolling your mouse wheel. The third playable character is Jacque Dubois a trucker with a chainsaw and Molotov cocktails! At level 15 you get Nurse Bettie, Bettie can heal you or the other characters as secondary she can give you a booster shot. The last character is Postal Pete with a submachine gun and a mail bomb to blow away the zombies. When you finish the level and one of the other characters dies you’ll have to play the level where you got character again to get him back. The secondary attack can only be used by the player so you’ll have to switch characters to use their strong abilities.

Every level pretty looks like each other though they get bigger and bigger with more and more zombies along the way. There are all kinds of zombies: slow zombies, fast zombies, zombies who explode when you kill them but they all have one thing in common, they want to eat your brains! The only way to kill a zombie is to shoot in the head, when their head didn’t explode be on the lookout because they will stand up again!

The game has a cartoonish look and is played from a third-person view. This kind of graphic style gives a unique atmosphere to the game. The game runs on a 3D-engine and uses PS/VS 2.0 shaders for High-end machines. It works also perfectly on low-end machines but with reduced rendering. The music is great and contains original and licensed tracks like “Shoot The Zombies “by “Songs To Wear Pants To”.

It’s real fun to play this game after a hard day of work, just killing zombies like a zombie! Pity there is too less diversion between the levels and lack of original weapons. Also the gameplay is really short, in a couple of hours you crossed al 25 levels. The only thing left is try to beat your own speed record of the levels.

Conclusion

NOMBZ is really a funny game though I just feel this game could be much much better. If you feel the desire to kill million billion zombies no less no more then you should buy this game. You’ll have fun with it for a couple of weeks. NOMBZ is available as a download on the official website for $14.99 USD.
